چکیده

Haemolytic disease of the foetus and newborn (HDFN) is a condition in which the lifespan of an infant’s red blood cells (RBCs) is shortened by the action of specific maternal immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody. Rhesus (Rh)D haemolytic disease of the newborn is a prototype of maternal isoimmunization and foetal haemolytic disease. Although rare, the other blood group antigens capable of causing alloimunization and haemolytic disease are c, C, E, Kell and Duffy. We report a case of HDFN due to anti-D and anti-C in the maternal serum as a result of anamnestic response to Rh-D and C antigens. This report highlights the importance of antibody screening in antenatal women which could assist in diagnosing and successfully treating the foetus and newborn with appropriate antigen negative cross-matched

Clinical significance of maternal anti-Cw antibodies: a review of three cases and literature.

Anti Cw antibody is a low frequency immunoglobulin (IgG) against red cell antigen- Cw. It is clinically significant and may cause haemolytic disease of the newborn. Due to its low frequency, it is not included in routine antenatal antibody screening panel. The incidence of Anti Cw antibodies has not been reported in our population. Here, we describe the clinical and laboratory spectra of three ...

A case of severe haemolytic disease of the newborn due to anti-Di(a) antibody.

Red cell allo-antibodies directed against the Diego (Di) blood group antigen have rarely been reported to cause a haemolytic reaction against transfusion or haemolytic disease of the newborn. The frequency of the Di(a+) phenotype among the Hong Kong Chinese population is estimated to be 4.4%. We report on a case of severe haemolytic disease of the newborn due to anti-Di(a) antibody--the first l...

ACP Broadsheet No 150. March 1997. Antenatal serological testing and prevention of haemolytic disease of the newborn.

Introduction Routine antenatal serological screening has been practised throughout the United Kingdom and worldwide for about 30 years.' Originally introduced to detect pregnancies at risk of haemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN) due to Rh anti-D antibodies, its continued use has led to an increasing realisation of the clinical importance of other red cell antibodies in the pathogenesis of HD...

SUBJECTS Neonates suspected to have HDN as per study criteria along with their mothers and mothers of still born foetuses wi...

Haemolytic disease of the newborn--the changing scene.

Between 1950 and 1970 there was a steady decline in the number of infant deaths from rhesus haemolytic disease of the newborn in the Yorkshire Region but no decrease in the number of pregnant women with antibodies. Following the introduction of Rh prophylaxis in 1970, the number of pregnant women sensitized has decreased by 70% and the number of infant deaths by 96%. The number of infants requi...
